How to Adopt
We are so excited that you are thinking about adopting a new furry family member! All Kind believes that all animals deserve to be loved by our neighbors in Abilene and we can’t wait for you to find the best fit for your family. Ensuring that the animal will thrive in your home is really important. The following procedures will make sure the adoption process is successful and sustainable.
Adoption Procedures
-
Potential pet adopters will visit with one of our kennel techs before meeting the animals available for adoption outside their kennel or cage. This provides our team with a better understanding of the pet adopter's past animal history, their expectations for a pet, their lifestyle, and the environment in which a new animal would be placed. It is also important that potential adopters ensure that there are no breed restrictions in their residences.
-
Because the decision to adopt a lifelong companion is a big step in one's life, it is recommended that family and household members participate in selecting a pet.
If possible, children under the age of 8 years should be observed interacting with the proposed animal.
Adult members of the household must be a part of the selection. This can be completed with a phone call when one of the adults cannot come to the shelter.
-
It is our goal that all animals of age that are available for adoption will be spayed or neutered prior to adoption. The Adoption Fees vary based on the status and plans of getting the animal spayed/ or neutered.
-
Adopters are required to carefully read and sign the adoption contract indicating an agreement to its terms, conditions, and spay/neuter requirements. We do not do adoption holds of any kind.

No matter how careful our team is in attempting to match the right pet with the right family, there will be occasions when animals are returned to the shelter. Adoption fees are non-refundable. Managers can override this policy in medical cases or in cases in which an animal is deemed dangerous. In cases in which an adopted pet does not get along with an existing pet, a returned adoption can be exchanged for another pet.
