Spay and Neuter Resources
We believe the long-term solution to pet overpopulation and sustainable animal welfare is spaying and neutering.
Spay/Neuter Vouchers
All Kind is partnering with community-minded vets who care about helping reduce pet overpopulation in Abilene. One of the ways we are doing this is through Spay/Neuter Vouchers.
-
Spay/neuter vouchers can be purchased in person at the Abilene Animal Shelter during normal business hours and are redeemable for dog and cat spay/neuter surgeries. Partnering vets accept our vouchers to do dog or cat spay/neuter surgeries and include 24 hours of pain medication for the dog or cat.
-
According to the ASPCA, animals that are spayed/neutered are less likely to stray since their instinct to mate is eliminated.
There are also several health benefits associated with spaying/neutering your pet, including significantly reduced chance of developing certain cancers, uterine infections and prostrate problems.
Most importantly, spaying/neutering prevents additional puppies and kittens from ending up on our streets and in our shelter, which is the number one factor contributing to lower euthanasia rates in a community.
-
First, you will call one of the participating vets (see list) to make your appointment. Vouchers expire 60 days from the date of purchase, and many vets are booked out past 60 days, so we always recommend you already have your appointment before purchasing your voucher. All animals must have proof of rabies vaccination to be eligible for surgery. A rabies vaccine can be added at the time of surgery for an additional fee of $15.
-
Vouchers cover a standard spay/neuter surgery for a dog or cat with no complications. Clients are advised that any additional costs that may arise from surgery complications will be at the owners’ expense.
Examples of additional costs include males whose testicles have failed to drop, females that are in heat or pregnant at the time of surgery.

In an effort to better compensate our local veterinarians who choose to participate in the program for their time and materials, we will be raising the prices for spay/neuter vouchers that can be purchased at the shelter. The new prices still reflect a significant discount on a typical spay/neuter surgery. Thank you for your understanding!
