Pet Services and Adoption Specialist
All Kind is a non-profit organization that seeks to improve animal welfare in the city of Abilene
by building a new animal shelter facility, decreasing homeless pet overpopulation through
accessible spay/neuter programs, increasing pet retention through expanded foster programming
and adoption events, and offering greater education and resources through community outreach.

All Kind seeks a friendly face to join our team! This front desk position serves as the first point of contact upon arrival at the shelter.
Location: Abilene Animal Shelter, 925 S. 25th St.
Compensation: Full-time and part-time positions at $15/hr
Full-time benefits include: Health insurance, PTO, life insurance, 401K plan
GENERAL DESCRIPTION AND EXPERIENCE
Responsible for maintaining a professional and personable attitude with the public and
ensuring that the customer’s first encounter is as positive as possible. Performs a variety of
clerical duties, which includes heavy volume of in-person and telephone contact with the
public; to type forms, and letters; to process documents; and to provide assistance to the
public.
One year of general clerical experience in an office environment and a familiarity with
animals is preferred.
This position exercises no supervision.
A high school diploma or a GED is required.
A valid Texas driver’s license is required.
IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Provide excellent customer service for citizens in person and over the telephone.
Process adoptions, owner reclaims and assists patrons with other All Kind programs,
services, vouchers and volunteer opportunities.
Facilitate good adoption matches through conversation and help set realistic expectations
of time, care, and financial commitment.
Maintaining a clean / organized lobby and front of shelter area.
Prepare and type various types of reports; perform other clerical duties including filing,
maintaining records, and processing mail.
Handle dogs and cats and occasional other animals of all sizes, ages, temperaments and
needs safely and appropriately.
Work with staff and volunteers to get to know, provide for, transition, and promote
adoptable animals.
Process daily revenue and balance sheet.
Perform other job duties and responsibilities as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
Business English, spelling, punctuation, and general math.
Office equipment and filing systems and procedures.
Skill to:
Utilize Microsoft Office including Word and Excel on a daily basis.
Operate basic office equipment including a computer, copier, fax machine,
multi-line telephone, typewriter, label maker, scanner, and two-way radios.
Provide exceptional customer service.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Ability to:
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and multi-task.
Provide compassion and empathy for animals and people.
Learn the shelter’s pet management software system.
Learn Adoption/Rescue Group and Owner Reclaim program and the services
provided.
Maintain confidentiality of client information.
Work individually and on a team, multi-task, and self-start.
Remain calm and empathetic in stressful situations.
Maintain records and files.
Assemble and organize data, and prepare reports.
Interact with the public tactfully and courteously.
Essential duties require the following physical skills and work environment:
With or without accommodation, ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
Sit or stand for prolonged periods of time, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, crawl,
twist, and climb.
Withstand exposure to animal noise, odors, cool and warm temperatures.
Ability to view computer monitor screens for extended periods of time during
work hours.
